Nordkalk is entering a forward-thinking collaboration with OX2, focusing on the exploration and development of fossil free energy including e-fuel production opportunities on the island of Gotland, Sweden. The collaboration continues to drive parent company SigmaRoc (‘the Group’)’s Net Zero ambitions, with Gotland envisioned as a pivotal hub in fossil free fuel.
In this innovative venture, OX2 brings extensive expertise in delivering large-scale offshore wind farms. With the ability to utilise Nordkalk’s CO2 using its recently proven carbon capture technology in Sweden, the e-fuels produced could revolutionise various industries by offering a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. For Nordkalk in particular, this allows the business to incorporate e-fuels, thereby improving the environmental footprint of its assets.
A pilot study is underway, laying down the foundations essential for the project. This includes exploring facility planning, asset utilisation and how the strategic positioning of Storugns’ infrastructure can be utilised and developed.

OX2’s development of offshore wind farms will produce about 37 TWh. “The e-fuels able to be generated from these assets hold immense potential, not only in enhancing Nordkalk’s operational efficiency but also as a valuable offering to sectors such as shipping and heavy transportation.
